Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act

On December 19, 2007, President Bush and Congress passed the "Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act" to promote the safety of children around swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas, specifically addressing suction entrapment prevention.

The new law requires all aquatic facilities to be in compliance with the most current American Standard of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A112.19.8 standard, to be enforced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The deadline for compliance for indoor facilities is December 19, 2008, and all outdoor pools must be brought into compliance by the opening date of the 2009 swim season.

Find out what you need to do to be in compliance.
