Recirculation system – All three pools
share a recirculation system. The filter rate does
not meet today’s new standards when all three pools are
in operation due to the sizing and configuration of the
piping, pumps, and filters.
Gutter – Water level is below the gutter lip along the north one-third of the
outdoor pool causing ineffective skimming and
inconsistent removal of debris from the water surface.
In addition, the style of gutter is a potential hazard.
Pool structure – During a hammer
test of the 50-meter outdoor pool, various hollow areas
in the floor and walls were identified.
Filter room – Equipment corrosion
is occurring due to the chemical storage within the
filter area. Ideally, chemicals should be kept in
an isolated room. The edge of the concrete slab
over the surge and backwash pits has exposed reinforcing
steel that is continuing to corrode.
Heating system – The pool heater
is sized for the indoor 25-yard pool, so when the
50-meter and wading pools are filled in the spring, the
heater cannot adequately heat all of the pools.
The result is cold water for several weeks in May and
June.
Roof – The fabric roof has
exceeded its life expectancy and needs to be replaced.
Most of the UV protective coating has peeled off.
Many of the bolts are rusted or missing and should be
replaced.
Air quality – The HVAC system is
inadequate for competitive swimming.
Acoustics – Noise echoes easily
within the indoor pool area making it difficult to hear
the instructor during exercise classes or lessons.
Pool features – The wading pool
features and water slides were added in 1995 and are in
fair condition. The slide tower stairs are steep
and narrow.
Water depth – Facility does not
have an area with 2-3½ ft deep water for younger
children. Shallow water is scarce and often
overcrowded.
Storage area – The facility has
inadequate storage space. Equipment is primarily
stored in the filter room loft, in the north mechanical
room, or on the deck.
Seating and deck space – The
facility has limited seating and deck space during
competitive swim meets or lessons.
Shade – With the growing concerns
of excessive sun exposure, shade in the water is
becoming popular in addition to increased shade on the
deck. Currently, a small amount shade is being
provided on the pool deck. Trees are located near
the fence on the north side of the 50-meter pool and a
circular sunshade was placed at the southeast corner of
the wading pool during its renovation in 1995.
